Top 20 Theft and Burglary Hotspots in the UK
Moneysupermarket.com research has found that homes situated in London and Nottingham were the most probable to make a claim regarding theft or burglary in the UK last year.
2.6 million home insurance enquires were analysed from the site which users log on to compare prices between companies within the same sector. The research for the full year of 2008 showed that out of the top 20, London appeared five times, and Nottingham four.
The top spot goes to the NG5 area in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, being ranked as the riskiest town in the UK. Other than London and Nottingham, the LE3 area in Leicester proves to be ranked third from the highest. A bit closer to home, the BN3 area in Hove, East Sussex was ranked tenth in the list suggesting that burglary and theft in the South East is still apparent.
The head of home insurance at moneysupermarket.com, Julie Owens advises home owners: "You never know when an opportunistic thief may strike, and I would advise ensuring your home contents insurance is fully up to date, and is at a high enough level to cover all belongings sufficiently."
Speaking about the top areas affected, Julie Owens said: "Along with many other UK cities London and Nottingham are classed as high risk areas for crime and it is no surprise to see these areas dominating the top 20. The research highlights a broad mix of areas across the North and South of the UK so it is clear that no matter where you live, there is always a risk you could become a victim of theft or burglary, and this should not be taken with light consideration."
