Snow and Flood Alert for Easter Weekend

31/03/2010

Last Easter Weekend I seem to remember sitting outside enjoying the sunshine, but this weekend the UK will be preparing itself for snow.

The Met Office has warned that there could be snow across parts of the North of England, Ireland and Scotland and the rest of us should brace ourselves for some sub zero temperatures.

The unsettled weather means that what is traditionally a weekend of DIY and gardening could be a weekend of twiddling thumbs and watching the rain pour. This is frustrating retailers who are banking on this weekend to bring in valuable sales.

As well as snow in the Northern parts of the country there will also be heavy rain, strong winds and gales along the coast. The combination of weather conditions will make this weekend that should signify the start of spring, very cold indeed.

Although the Met Office have said that snow is not unusual during March, the weather has already caused power cuts to more than 48,000 homes across Northern Ireland.

There are 17 flood warnings in place and 51 areas are on flood watch. People are being urged to prepare for the worst.
