November is wettest month on record since 1951

The Met Office have confirmed that November was the wettest month on record since 1951.

An average of 8.6 inches of rain fell across the UK in November with the most rainfall recorded, unsurprisingly, in Cumbria at 24.5 inches.

The previous average recorded rainfall was measured as 7.6 inches back in 1951.

The horrendous weather which we saw in November (and have been told is on its way out) caused chaos up and down the country, with particular damage being inflicted upon Cumbria. 1,300 properties were flooded and Pc Barker lost his life helping people to safety.

The rainfall that fell in Cumbria, Scotland and Snowdonia hiked up the average rainfall for the month. Although the rainfall made November the wettest month, it was also a lot warmer than usual.

Many parts of the region most affected are still cleaning up after the flooding and a fund has been set up to help the victims of the Cumbria floods.
