Insurance Companies Brace Themselves for Claims Chaos
Following the gales that have swept across the country, Insurers have been bracing themselves for the phone to be ringing off the hook, with literally thousands of people looking to make an insurance claim.
The cost of the past weeks Atlantic gales are estimated at being somewhere near £350 million and have caused much disruption, not to mention misery for homeowners. The gales, coupled with the flooding of the past year have cost the insurance industry literally billions of pounds and with no rest in sight, this figure is set to rise.
£750 million pounds worth of domestic property claims were made after the flooding of last year, which is set on record as being the worst flooding in 60 years and forced 14,500 families into temporary accommodation, many of which lost everything.
With a depression set to hit over the next couple of days, areas of the country have been declared high risk with the usual heavy rain and hail forecast as well as snow storms in some parts of the north and north east.
