Flash Flooding Spreads to Scotland
As the flash flooding continues the calls to emergency services ring on and the rain continues to pour.
Heavy rain in Scotland is now the culprit of the latest damage to the UK and the reason why fire fighters were called out to deal with the surging water well into the small hours.
And elderly couple were rescued by fire fighters using an inflatable boat in the early hours of this morning from their home in Broxburn, West Lothian after a river burst its bank. The couple were immediately taken to the local hospital for checks.
There were 70 calls to the emergency services in Lanarkshire alone after flooding caused damage to homes and trapped cars.
There doesn’t look to be much let up from the rain either as the weather is forecast to continue for much of the next 2 days.
The areas that are at the most risk are said to be The Borders, West Lothian, the Falkirk area, Stirlingshire, Glasgow, North Ayrshire and Argyll.
More than 120 emergency calls were made to the Strathclyde Fire and Rescue yesterday and this has continued with the rain.
Despite all of the emergency calls made, and the damage to homes and other buildings, there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities to date.
The worst seems to be over according to the Group Commander of Strathclyde Fire and Rescue and although the weather did stretch the resources of the emergency services and there are still 12 flood watches in place. The next couple of days hold the key to what direction the weather will take next.
