Riverside Property Flood Guidance & Your Responsibilities
If you own a property that runs along a river or another type of watercourse, then you need to know what your rights are and responsibilities.
If you own the ajoining land to a river, stream, brook, beck or mill stream then you are probably not aware of your responsibilities.
You are responsible for:
- ensuring that water can flow through the pass, without becoming obstructed
- looking after the river bed and banks
- manage the growth of invasive weeds
If there are issues with the watercourse that could contribute to flooding, then get in touch with the Environment Agency who can advise and help you to manage the risk.
