Claiming on your Buildings Insurance

If you are making an insurance claim then you need to make sure that you have done your maths.

When you make a claim you are likely to incur a hike in your insurance premium, so it is worth building this into your calculations.

You can of course ask your insurer how much your premium is likely to increase, but you are not guaranteed an answer.

It is also worth considering that if you have a no-claims discount, making a claim will mean losing this.

How to make your claim

You may have to deal with more than one insurance company if you have your contents insurance and home nsurance with separate parties. If this is the case then you will need to get the insurance companies talk to each other and keep you involved. A small feat at times.

Ensure that you are covered for everything and read the fine print. It is quite common to make an insurance claim only to find out that you are not covered.

It is worth remembering that insurance companies are not keen on making large payouts and so will endeavour to pay you as little as possible. If at any stage you are not happy with how your insurance company are dealing with your claim, then you can contact our team of loss assessors who will take on every aspect of your claim.
