As loss assessors there are some questions that we are often asked and with this in mind, we have put together this list to help you. If the answer that you are looking for does not appear in this list, then please get in touch with us. We are always happy to help.
The most frequently asked questions are:
How much am I going to get?
This depends entirely upon the circumstances around your claim, how much you are covered for, what the damage is, how much your insurance company are prepared to pay out and the fine print in your policy that you may have over looked. We handle of this for you, which for most of our clients is a weight off their minds and one less thing to worry about.
What is the first thing that I should do after a loss?
The first step that you should take, is to report the loss to your insurance broker or straight to your insurance company and then employ the services of a loss assessor.
What is a loss assessor going to do that I can’t?
In simple terms, a loss assessor understands all of the fine print and the procedures in negotiating a claim. Unless you work in this area, it is unlikely that you will be able to employ the same tactics as a loss assessor to guarantee a successful outcome.
Loss assessors look after every aspect of your claim for you, including all of the complicated paper work and liaising with your insurance company, regardless of the size of the damage, making this possibly traumatic time as stress free as possible.
It is also worth bearing in mind that a loss assessor, with his or hers year experience, knows what an insurance company will be looking for. In particular a loss assessor will help you with the preparation of inventories, estimates and other evidence of the loss.
How complicated is making a claim?
An insurance policy is full of stipulations and exemptions that make an insurance policy a minefield for the untrained. In addition, many insurance companies prefer to dealing with a professional as it makes their job a lot easier and therefore favour is carried with you.
Who pays the loss assessor?
You do – but don’t panic!!! – they are paid by a small percentage of your claim.
The percentage is agreed in advance and there are no hidden costs or extras. There is no cost for consultation and nothing is paid to us until you receive your settlement.
Aren’t loss assessors employed by the insurance company?
No – they work for you and you alone. A loss adjustor works for your insurance company to investigate what you are claiming for.
A loss assessor is like the middleman between you and the insurance company, making sure that you get the best possible settlement from your claim. It is important to know the difference between a loss assessor and loss adjustor.
When am I likely to see the cheque for my claim?
Insurance claims are usually settled within 10 to 15 days, but you have to sign the acceptance form first which could take several weeks, depending upon the complexity of the insurance claim.
